The San Jose Sharks have plenty of pending UFAs they could move out
The Fourth Period: David Pagnotta on DFO Rundown said that San Jose Sharks are willing to move some pieces out to add to their young depth and draft pick capital.
“I don’t think it’s changed, by any stretch,” Pagnotta said. “Look, there’s a reason why they added contracts like Ryan Ellis and Carey Price (to stay above the cap floor if contracts are moved out). They have assets they’re willing to move.
They signed a couple defenceman to one-year contracts, brought in Nick Leddy, as well, because the plan was, going into this season, this is the next step in our rebuild, we’re going to do better, but we still want to fill our cupboard up, we’re still going through these rebuild, steps.”
NHL Injuries: Ducks, Flames, Panthers, Devils, Rangers, Lightning, Leafs, Canucks and more
Pending UFAs on the blue line include Mario Ferraro, Timothy Liljegren, John Klingberg, Vincent Desharnais and Leddy. Up front, they have pending UFAs in Alex Wennberg, Ryan Reaves and Jeff Skinner, and in net, Alex Nedeljkovic.
Teams like the Montreal Canadiens could be doing their research on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
NHL Rumour Report: Elliotte Friedman on the Fan Hockey Show on Friday on Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: “I don’t know where this is gonna go, but I bet you there’s a lotta teams doing their research on him; I would assume Montreal is one of those teams.”
Would the Pittsburgh Penguins consider trading a goaltender?
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins could use some scoring help. The Penguins have some depth in net and could use that to their advantage. There are five playoff teams that have a save percentage below .885.
NHL Rumors: Andrei Svechnikov Had Been Open to a Trade Earlier This Season
The Penguins could make Tristan Jarry or Arturs Silovs available if they feel Sergei Murashov is ready. Murashov’s a little raw still, but he’d learn from NHL shooters. Jarry is still dealing with a lower-body injury and makes more money than Silovs. It’s riskier to trade Silovs. They gave up a fourth-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Silovs in the offseason, but could they get a second-round pick for him now? That is the rate for a middle-six rental forward. Jarry would land less than that.
