NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks – Evander Kane and Joe Thornton

Has Joe Thornton played his last game in a San Jose Sharks jersey?

On the San Jose Sharks …

Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News: Evander Kane was asked after their loss on Sunday if his experience in San Jose was enough for him to want to re-sign with the team.

“I enjoy winning and coming here was a great opportunity for me to do that,” Kane said. “Really, really, really enjoyed my time with this group of guys and love going into battle with these guys. Like I said, I have a lot of confidence in this group.”

Pending UFAs for the Sharks include Evander Kane, Eric Fehr, Jannik Hansen, Joel Ward and Joe Thornton.

Paul Gackle of The Mercury News: Has Joe Thornton played his last game in a San Jose Sharks jersey?

The Sharks played over three months without Thornton after his knee surgery, and there is some suggestion that they might be better without him. The game is going younger and faster.

The Sharks could look to bring him back, but he’d have to agree to a lesser role.

Sharks GM Doug Wilson will likely be interested in pending UFA John Tavares if he hits the open market. The Sharks will have close to $20 million in salary cap space and will also be looking to re-sign Evander Kane. Tomas Hertl and Chris Tierney are RFAs and will be looking for deals.

The Sharks are also able to talk contract extension with Logan Couture this offseason.
