Scouting the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes …
David Pagnotta: Scouts listed to attend yesterday’s Maple Leafs-Hurricanes game: LA Kings (2), NY Rangers (2), Buffalo Sabres (2), Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Ottawa Senators, Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, Arizona Coyotes and Pittsburgh Penguins.
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Rick Dhaliwal: Sounding like Canucks prospect Jonathan Dahlen will remain with Timra for the rest of the season and won’t be moved to another team. He has 24 points in 20 games so far this season.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 650 yesterday before roster freeze kicked in. Though they made two minor trades, the Pittsburgh Penguins may not be done. There are some other teams looking to deal.
“Pittsburgh made two minor moves. I think the hammer is going to drop there. Maybe not now, but it will. I think they’re looking to do some pretty major surgery.
“Ottawa, like I said, Dorion kind of hinted to some guys he wouldn’t do anything now, but I think he’s going to have a lot going on.
Friedman notes the Sabres may not be looking to do something right now and that the Flames are looking for a winger.
“I heard you guys talking about Gudbranson. I”ve got to think that if somebody is going to take a run at him, they’re going to do it soon. I could see Vancouver being motivated to try to get something going there. I could see some team looking that if they’re going to get him, they’re going to try to go out and get him not long after the freeze ends because you’re going to want to get him playing, you’re going to want to get him into your system. I don’t think Vancouver wants Ben Hutton sitting out. I could see them being motivated to make a Gudbranson move pretty soon.”
