The problem with this is that the Flyers have a shot at and wouldn’t mind Jack Hughes, and the Senators don’t really have an option for a starting goaltender at the moment for next season.
Rangers scouting the Avalanche

It’s a move the Avs should make, and it’s one that could happen without mortgaging their future.
The Rangers had two scouts at a recent Avs game.
The Avs aren’t going to give up the first-round pick they acquired from the Senators, and it only makes sense if they’d want to sign him long-term.
Would giving up defensive prospect Conor Timmins be too much?

The Avalanche are not going to give away their top prospects or draft picks for a short-term rental like Kevin Hayes.
Now if he were to have three or four years left on his deal they might consider parting with a nice draft pick and/or prospect.
