Garrioch looks at some rumors from around the league
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Both Mark Stone and Matt Duchene are pending unrestricted free agents and it’s possible that they could re-sign one or both, but for now they are playing the waiting game.
The Ottawa Senators haven’t had any formal contract extension talks with Duchene’s camp, but GM Pierre Dorion likely has an idea of what it might take to get a long-term deal done.
The Senators and Stone’s camp talked about a long-term deal over the offseason and they weren’t that far apart. He can sign an extension after January 1st.
Trade talk will follow Stone and Duchene until they sign extensions.
There are many coaches that could be on the hot seat this season including Chicago Blackhawks Joel Quenneville and Anaheim Ducks Randy Carlyle.
It’s doubtful the Columbus Blue Jackets would trade either Artemi Panarin or Sergei Bobrovsky at the trade deadline if they are in a playoff spot.
With Corey Perry being lost for months, Ducks GM Bob Murray may be looking to add some help if they don’t get off to a good start.
Even after adding Erik Karlsson, the San Jose Sharks could still be looking to add. They may be looking to add a forward.
The Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars were in Karlsson to the end. The Blue Jackets and the Vancouver Canucks also checked in but weren’t a fit for the Senators.
The Toronto Maple Leafs don’t appear to have any interest in trading restricted free agent William Nylander. A two-year bridge may be the most plausible solution.
