On the Ottawa Senators and Derick Brassard…
Murray Pam of The Sporting News: Derick Brassard knows he could be traded before the trade deadline next week.
“I was traded before. I know it’s a business. There’s no hard feelings with anyone,” Brassard said after practice Friday in preparation for his 699th regular season game versus the Rangers, the team that dealt him to the Senators. “It’s the same when I got traded for Mika (Zibanejad). I got traded for a really good young player. I take it as a compliment. I know the GM’s and owners have to do a job. The only thing I think I have to do is play well for this team.”
Brassard has another year left on his deal at a $5 million salary cap hit, but only a $3.5 million salary.
Pierre LeBrun has reported that the Senators are looking for a first-round pick, a prospect, and maybe another asset.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins have shown interest.
On the Buffalo Sabres, Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers. …
Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: The Vegas Golden Knights have been scouting the Sabres a few times lately – NHL and AHL. Wouldn’t think they’d be interested in Evander Kane, but maybe forward Benoit Pouliot.
The Sabres should be able to get a low-round pick for Pouliot.
Maybe Evander Kane could be a fit with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers have defensive prospects Samuel Morin, Travis Sandheim, and Philippe Myers.
The Flyers could also be interested in goaltender Chad Johnson over Robin Lehner. Johnson is a pending UFA and was a selected by GM Ron Hextall as one of Team Canada’s goalies at last year’s World Championship.
On the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings …
Darren Dreger: Sources are saying that the Flyers and Red Wings are having ongoing trade talks involving Petr Mrazek
