Brayden Schenn brings the intangibles that could net the St. Louis Blues a good return
Tyler Kuehl of Daily Faceoff: Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton were talking about the St. Louis Blues and 34-year-old center Brayden Schenn. He’s got a couple of years left at a $6.5 million cap hit, and the Blues would get a nice return for him if they decide to move him.
Yaremchuk thinks the Vegas Golden Knights would be one of the teams interested. Hutton agrees with the Golden Knights, who adds that Schenn likely isn’t going to be a top-six center on a contending team, but would come in and really improve a third line.
“And what have we seen year after year with NHL teams? Your third line kind of wins or loses you the Stanley Cup.
NHL Rumors: Why Would the St. Louis Blues Want to Trade Robert Thomas?
I’ve heard many GMs talk about this, about like just adding around the edges. Brayden Schenn could be that piece that you add to the edge that he comes in, and he’s going to fight. He’s going to do whatever it takes to help your team win. I think there is value there outside of just point production.”
The Utah Mammoth and Nick Schmaltz will deal with contract stuff later
The Fourth Period: 29-year-old Nick Schmaltz is a pending UFA in the final year of a seven-year, $40.95 million deal. There were rumors in the offseason that they were exploring a trade.
Utah Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong said last week that the sides won’t be talking extension when they’re battling for a playoff spot.
“I just said, ‘hey, listen, let’s worry about getting the team into the playoffs, and we’ll deal with the other stuff when it comes time.’ And he’s been great about that; he’s really been focused on trying to get this team into the playoffs.”
NHL Rumors: Winnipeg Jets, and the Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth will be looking to add leading up to the trade deadline, and they’ll have $13 million in salary cap space to work with.
