The Pittsburgh Penguins traded their 2017 1st round pick and forward Oskar Sundqvist to the St. Louis Blues for forward Ryan Reaves and a 2017 2nd round pick (No. 51).

The Blues selected Klim Kostin from Dynamo Moscow with the 31st pick.

The 30-year old Reaves was drafted 156th overall in the 5th round of the 2005 draft by the Blues.

The 23-year old Sundqvist was drafted 81st overall in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft by the Penguins.

Thoughts from the media …

Jonathan Bombulie: “This is a very strong statement by the Penguins regarding how they feel about the way Sidney Crosby was treated in the playoffs.”

Chris Johnston: “Jim Rutherford says it was a priority to add some muscle in the form of Ryan Reaves because of how hard teams play his stars.”

Dan Rosen: “I’m skeptical of why the Penguins just made that trade. They won the Cup twice without a player like Reaves. Interesting trade.”

Todd Cordell: “Uh, trading down 20 spots and giving up a prospect for Reaves?”
