Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) Think that Tavares will re-sign with the Islanders, but it might not happen right away . believes Tavares when he says he wants to stay, and believes that owner will spend to keep him.
If it drags on though, a bidding war could open up next offseason, and could see the Canadiens making a big push.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Islanders head coach Doug Weight was on SiriusXM radio and was asked about John Tavares‘ and his future with the organization.
Weight says that Tavares wants to win multiple Stanley Cups and they are trying to show him they can do it. The Islanders realize that Tavares wants to be there.
“But I believe we’re in a great position. I think we have some really good, talented young players coming up. I think we will have, when it’s announced, we’re going to have a staff that has respect and experience and wants to work and wants to make these players better. And I think as an organization, we’re willing to make moves to try and win next year.
“There’s only one reason I’m back, is to win. It was a hard decision for me… there’s a lot going on with my family. But I want to win and I’m going to be passionate about it. I’m going to be all in and John knows that. We talk a lot.”
