On the Arizona Coyotes …
Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: Shane Doan will be 40-years old just after the season starts next year. He still wants to play and will go year-by-year from now on. His agent wouldn’t comment much on his future.
On the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames …
Michael Augello: John Shannon saying that Randy Carlyle is in the mix for the Ducks and Flames coaching vacancies.
On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Igor Eronko: It would be a massive move if the Blackhawks were able to reunite Vadim Shipachyov and Evgenii Dadonov with Artemi Panarin … but their cap situation.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Mike Halford of NBS Sports: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford talked with WPXI’s Alby Oxenreiter about the Penguins goaltending situation.
Q: What about the young players?
Rutherford: “They speak for themselves. Those two goalies – you can never have enough good goalies. The Penguins have three good ones now. I feel bad for Fleury. He’s such a great team guy and we’re fortunate that he is. He’s handled this situation like a pro. First class. He’s ready to go when called on.”
Q : Does this mean he’s history with the organization?
Rutherford: “Absolutely not.”
On the New York Islanders and Steven Stamkos …
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on the New York Islanders and Steven Stamkos.
“I’ll tell you this. I’m curious to see if the Islanders – it doesn’t look like they’re signing Okposo. There hasn’t been a lot of talk with Nielsen. I wonder if they would ever be a Stamkos team. Like they would look at themselves and say, ‘New ownership. Lots of cap room. Him and Tavares are tight.’
On if Stamkos would play the wing with John Tavares or if he’d only go somewhere to play center.
“I think you just say, ‘You know what? You can do both.’
“Honestly, you watch the Sharks. You watch what the Oilers are trying to do. Guys can play multiple positions. And if you’re versatile in a cap world, it gives you so many options in terms of what you can do.
“At the end of the day, that’s what I’d want if I was a team. I’d say to him, ‘Steven, where do you want to play? Okay, you can play there, but sometimes we might try you here.’
