NHL Rumors: Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, and the Dallas Stars

Brayden Point and the Tampa Bay Lightning won't talk contract until after the season.
Lightning and Brayden Point‘s camp will wait until the season is over to talk extension

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said Tampa Bay Lightning center Brayden Point is another player coming out of his entry-level deal that could be looking for a big deal.

“I’m told his agent Gerry Johansson met GM Julien BriseBois of the Lightning this week and essentially they said ‘listen, let’s shelve these discussions until after the season, let’s let him focus on hockey, it’s a big year again for the Lightning. But make no mistake, this is a very important contract when it happens for Tampa Bay.  And yet again because they draft so well and have so many good players, it’s going to be salary cap gymnastics for that organization when it’s time to re-sign him.”

Sharks may need a fourth line upgrade

Kevin Kurz of The Athletic: (mailbag) Asked if the San Jose Sharks will look to trade for some depth at center or if Antti Suomela and Barclay Goodrow have done enough. For now thinks Suomela has looked okay, but it is his first year on the league. The Sharks may need to upgrade their fourth line though.

Stars could use a top-six forward

Sean Shapiro of The Athletic: (mailbag) would be willing to include Esa Lindell in a trade for William Nylander if the Maple Leafs were looking to move him. The Stars could really use another top-six forward.

The Stars need another top-six forward and it doesn’t have to be a second line centerman.

Methot to take it year-by-year

Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Dallas Stars defenseman Marc Methot has been dealing with knee issues since last season. The 33-year old will be an unrestricted free agent after the season, but he hasn’t made any final decisions on his playing future yet.

“I want to keep playing, obviously, but I can only do what I can handle,” he said. “I’m just going to take it one year at a time here. I’ll explore some different options to maybe get (the knee) fixed after the season, but that’s about it.”
