The previous Toronto Maple Leafs GM search didn’t involve many candidates
Michael Coyle of The Leafs Nation: Brad Treliving held a 139-92-27 regular season record, and a 10-10 playoff record as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before he was hired by the Leafs, the Leafs GM search wasn’t very extensive at all compared to now. Chris Johnston on The Chris Johnston Show on Friday.
“Obviously, there were some time pressures there, to get someone in place by the time the draft came about and to be ready for free agency,” Johnston said to co-host Julian McKenzie. “The only people I’m aware the Leafs spoke to at that time were, obviously, Brad Treliving, and Marc Bergevin. There may have been another interview or two that I never heard about, but the point was it wasn’t a lengthy process or didn’t include a long list of candidates.”

Chris Pronger is open to conversations with teams
Sportsnet: Chris Pronger was asked by ‘Sportsnet’ if he would be interested in a GM or director of player personnel position with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Pronger said he hasn’t been contacted by the Maple Leafs, but would be interested in having a conversation to see what it looks like and what it entails.
“Is big brother over your shoulder the whole time, right? How much autonomy do you have? And, when you set a vision and a plan and a course … I would have the conviction. Do they have the conviction? There’s a lot that goes into that.
And that’s why I talk about it, is it the right fit? Are they, whichever team, is that what they’re interested in? And it might not be a fit, and it might not be the opportunity that we all think it is, depending upon a number of varying factors.”
It’s not a simple cut-and-dry answer to start for Pronger, but a conversation would be needed first.
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, and the Vancouver Canucks
NHL Rumour Report: Jeff Marek on The Sheet on Pronger: “Sooner or later, media’s gonna lose Chris Pronger, like he is going to be a General Manager at some point sooner than later; that does seem to be the career path here.”
