The Toronto Maple Leafs don’t have a lot of assets to work with

Jonas Siegel of The Athletic: It seems unlikely that the Toronto Maple Leafs will trade Max Domi. He’s got two years left at $3.75 million and won’t bring back much of a return. Maybe another bad contract.

The Leafs could likely move pending UFA forward Scott Laughton, but they’re not going to get back a first-round pick and prospect like they gave up for him last year. The same can be said for injured defenseman Brandon Carlo.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and forwards Bobby McMann and Nic Roy are movable, but you’re not going to get a major haul for them. Mid-round draft picks aren’t going to help this team next year.

The Leafs’ 2026 first-round pick is top-five protected (Boston), and their 2027 first-round pick is top-10 protected (Philadelphia).

Having a healthy Carlo, Chris Tanev, and Anthony Stolarz would definitely help the Leafs this season.

Potential trade targets for the Colorado Avalanche at 3C

Corey Masisak of the Denver Post: Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar when asked if there was a hole in his roster that he would mind filling.

“I like the way we are playing throughout the lineup, so the depth is good,” Bednar said. “If I was looking at something, like on a wishlist, is it a 3C spot? How does that all play out for us?
“I think all of the guys in our lineup are playing well, but it is making sure we have depth, chemistry, checking ability and scoring ability on every line, because we’re going to have to be deep in order to get out of our division.”

Some potential options for Avalanche as a 3C.

Ross Colton – Internally filling the position shouldn’t be ruled out if he can handle the defensive side of things while maintaining the offense.

Ryan O’Reilly – Nashville Predators – A year left at $4.5 million, and would give the Avs a really nice top four. There could be a bidding war if O’Reilly decides he wants to be traded, and where will he want to go?

Nazem Kadri – Calgary Flames – Two years left at $7 million makes it a long-shot.

Alexander Wennberg – San Jose Sharks – Pending UFA at $5.5 million and suited on the third line and not in a top-six role.

NHL Rumors: The Washington Capitals Will Be Seeing What’s Available

Jason Dickinson – Chicago Blackhawks – Pending UFA at $4.25 million. Not putting up the numbers this year like he did last year.

Charlie Coyle – Columbus Blue Jackets – Pending UFA at $5.25 million. Former Av, but his cap hit was too high. Would the Blue Jackets retain?
