Some coaching options for the Toronto Maple Leafs, two D they could move and areas of need

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period: Jay Woodcroft, Jay Leach, Jeff Halpern and Manny Malhotra are among the potential coaches being considered for the Toronto Maple Leafs head coaching vacancy.

GM John Chayka will eventually meet up with Auston Matthews to lay out their play, then he’ll have until mid-July to prove that plan.

They’ll be looking to re-work their blue line. Expected them to see if Morgan Rielly would waive his no-movement clause. They could see what value Brandon Carlo has.

Among the other work needed is a third-line center, maybe a top-six forward, and to re-do their fourth line. They’ve got $24 million in cap space, excluding the possibility for Gavin McKenna around $2.5 million. It’s not a deep free agent clause, so they will explore the trade market. Vincent Trocheck‘s name came up this week.

Not a lot of salary cap space for the Minnesota Wild, and some decisions with pending free agents

Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic: The Minnesota Wild need to find a top-six center. They have about $15.4 million in projected salary cap space and with eight roster spots needing to be filled.

They may need to clear some cap space. Ryan Hartman, Joel Eriksson Ek and Jared Spurgeon have 10-team no-trade clauses. Marcus Foligno and Jake Middleton have 15-team no-trade clauses that convert to no-moves on July 1st. Jonas Brodin, Nico Sturm and Yakov Trenin don’t have protection.

Could see Quinn Hughes signing a three-year extension this offseason or before his contract is up. That would put his contract done at the same time as his brother Jack.

Bobby Brink and Daemon Hunt are RFAs. Their UFAs include Vladimir Tarasenko, Nick Foligno, Mats Zuccarello, Michael McCarron, Marcus Johansson, Robby Fabbri, Zach Bogosian and Jeff Petry.

Jason Robertson Trade Options and Minnesota Wild Trade Targets

Will Zuccarello take a smaller salary and role? McCarron would get $4-$5 million on the open market. Tarasenko was a nice mentor for Danila Yurov. Would Bogosian take a league minimum deal? Fabbri and Petry likely won’t be back.
