Hainsey back with the Maple Leafs?

Ryan Fancey: Elliotte Friedman said on his 31 Thoughts podcast that he believes the Toronto Maple Leafs will re-sign defenseman Ron Hainsey to a one-year deal.

Could be something to it as both Friedman and McKenzie keep saying it.

Leafs checking out Kadri’s trade value

@Acount4hockey: Elliotte Friedman said on Sportsnet on Friday that he thinks the Maple Leafs have checked out Nazem Kadri‘s trade value. The Leafs have a lot of irons in the fire.

Hurricanes may have an interest in Zaitsev and Kapanen

@Account4hockey: Pierre LeBrun said on TSN 1040 yesterday that the Carolina Hurricanes could be interested in a Kasperi Kapanen and Nikita Zaitsev for Brett Pesce/Dougie Hamilton/Justin Faulk, but would be after Zaitsev’s gets his bonus pay.

Canucks checked in on Zaitsev’s price

Rick Dhaliwal: A source is saying that the Vancouver Canucks are checking out the trade market.

They checked in on what the price is for Maple Leafs Nikita Zaitsev. He’s getting a lot of interest.

Rick Dhaliwal: Source: “ interest is high in Zaitsev but do they have what Toronto would take back. Could a deal happen yes it’s possible but not there yet.”

Leafs may get limited interest in Zaitsev

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: There are limited teams that would take Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Nikita Zaitsev. Most won’t want to touch the term and/or money. Teams that would likely be interested in teams looking to get to the floor. An NHL executive on Zaitsev.

“He’s paid like a Top 4 defenceman but plays like a 5-6. That’s a problem.”

The Leafs will need to round out their blue line. It’s likely too soon to promote Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren.
