Maple Leafs listening to trade offers on several players

Darren Dreger: The Toronto Maple Leafs are telling teams that they are willing to listen to trade offers for Kasperi Kapanen and Nazem Kadri.

If they traded Kapanen, they would need to get a defenseman back.

They would need to get a center back for Kadri.

There is also the sense that Connor Brown could be traded as well.

Maple Leafs and Hurricanes talking trade

Pierre LeBrun: Have been told that the Carolina Hurricanes and Maple Leafs talked about a Kapanen and Brown package that involved defenseman Brett Pesce.

Don’t believe that the Hurricanes want to move Pesce at this point. That can always change.

Leafs exploring Kapanen as a sweetener and where he’s not

James (@Account4hockey): Chris Johnston said on Sportsnet 650 that the Maple Leafs have explored trades that included Kapanen as a sweetener with Patrick Marleau and Nikita Zaitsev.

They have also explored trades with Kapanen without Marleau and Zaitsev in deals for someone like Brett Pesce and Kris Letang.

Marner’s agent to talk to Dubas at the draft … Offer sheet notes

Darren Dreger: Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is expected to meet with Darren Ferris, Mitch Marner‘s agent, in Vancouver.

It’s not known if the Leafs will present an offer or not.

Lance Hornby: On NHL executive on the risk of signing Mitch Marner and others to an offer sheet: “It’s the nuclear bomb you can drop on another team. But do you want someone to come back and drop the nuclear bomb on you?”

James (@Account4hockey): Chris Johnston said on Sportsnet 650 that he believes that Marner may not visit other cities to explore the idea of an offer sheet because of the PR hit he would take.

There is not a lot of talk going on right now and they are not close on a deal.

Johnston thinks the sides will eventually get a deal done, but it’s going to be at a number the Maple Leafs aren’t really happy with.

Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun: Mitch Marner’s agent is still believed to be looking for a similar AAV to Auston Matthew’s $11.634 million.

Agent Darren Ferris issued a “no comment” when asked how negotiations are going.

The salary cap is not going to be at the previous expected $83 million and that will put an even bigger cap crunch.
