More the Dubas needs convincing
TSN: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1050 talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dreger notes that it’s not just GM Kyle Dubas that needs to be convinced to explore the idea of trading assets for a defenseman, the entire management group needs convincing.
“I’m not suggesting that they’re ever going to get to a point this season where yeah, Kasperi Kapanen is a piece they can live without, but maybe it shifts in a different direction with some of the other coveted prospects they have at centre.”
One name on the blueline market that’s been popping up around the league? Jake Muzzin of the Los Angeles Kings.”
Dreger says that the asking price for Jake Muzzin is a first round pick and a prospect. Maybe closer the deadline the Leafs may look at the left-handed Muzzin, but their need is more on the right side.
Sabres and Skinner’s camp working hard to get a deal done
Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on WGR 550 and said that he believes the Buffalo Sabres are working hard with Jeff Skinner‘s agency – Newport – to get him re-signed, but nothing is imminent.
“I don’t think that they’re there yet,” noted Dreger. “I think it’d be real tough, wouldn’t it, to roll the dice. But in saying that, the gap would have to be like the grand canyon to make a determination that you’re just not going to be able to get it done.”
Skinner has fit in real well with the Sabres and with Jack Eichel, and vise versa.
“Why would you rock the boat by going into free agency when you’ve got a best-case scenario. He’s going to get the term. He’s going to get the money. And he’s got the hockey side covered with Buffalo.
“So I’d be really surprised if they can’t come to terms.”
