NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs and Nylander … Islanders and Bobrovsky

The New York Islanders would be one team that would be interested in Sergei Bobrovsky if he was available.
Nylander won’t get what he’s asking the Maple Leafs for

Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: Whatever amount of money William Nylander is asking for, he’s not going to get it, even if he might deserve it.

McGran notes: “And if he’s really hoping for $8 million, don’t vilify him. The question isn’t really: Is he worth $8 million now? It’s just as valid to ask whether he’s worth $8 million seven or eight years from now. Betting he’ll be a bargain by then.”

If Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas ends up giving ‘more’ to Nylander, he’ll then have to ‘more’ to Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews on their next deals – so it’s not going to happen.

McGran thinks they should try to sign Nylander to a bridge deal.

Nylander should be in the $6 million to $6.5 million per season range.

The Islanders would be a team interested in Bobrovsky

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1200 and was asked about his comments previously made on Insider Trading about the Columbus Blue Jackets not interested in trading Sergei Bobrovsky or Artemi Panarin at this point.

Dreger said that if Bobrovsky does become available, the New York Islanders would be a team that would be interested.

“The Islanders have been searching for a goaltender that can be a difference-maker for quite some time. At least the media, we have talked about it for a long, long time, the need of the New York Islanders. Now with Lou Lamoriello there, he wasn’t able to get that work done and wasn’t able to convince John Tavares to sign on long term, so I get the feeling that Lou is going to be pretty hungry knowing that he’s going to have to try to snag a goaltender at some point.

“Whether there’s a deal to be made, whether or not it’s the Islanders or another team that jumps in on Bobrovsky as a free agent, there’ll be no shortage of suitors.”

Chris Nichols: Elliotte Friedman on his 31 Thoughts podcast on the New York Islanders: “I do think that if I was to put money on it now – and I’m not saying I’m going to be right, but if I had to place an early-season wager – I think that’s the team that’s all-in for Bobrovsky.”
