Seguin and Stars close on an extension
Darren Dreger: The Dallas Stars and Tyler Seguin are closing in on a contract extension. It’s sounding Seguin’s AAV could be higher than Jamie Benn‘s $9.5 million salary cap hit.
Another Erik Karlsson update
Bob McKenzie: “Stop me if you have heard this before — and you have — but there’s been a decided increase in Erik Karlsson trade talk over the last 24-48 hours with the obvious goal of trying to get it done before OTT hits the ice for training camp.”
Bob McKenzie: “I would almost be tempted to say it’s close, but the problem with that is I suspect it’s been this close or even closer in the past and it obviously didn’t get done then, so…let’s just wait and see if this is indeed the real thing.”
Bob McKenzie: “FWIW, my sense is if Karlsson is traded today/tomorrow, it will be to a Western Conference team.”
Vegas trade talk
David Schoen: (7:34 PM tweet) “I need to be careful here, but it’s also my understanding the Golden Knights ramped up their efforts to land Ottawa’s star defenseman Erik Karlsson, echoing several reports. Nothing confirmed.”
Pacioretty couldn’t reach a deal with someone before the trade to Vegas
Danny Webster: Vegas Golden Knights GM George McPhee said that the Montreal Canadiens had a Max Pacioretty trade in place with another team but they were not able to agree on a contract extension.
Morrissey could miss the start of camp
Jason Bell: Restricted free agent defenseman Josh Morrissey won’t take part in team medicals and on-ice testing Friday if a deal isn’t reached by then.
Nick Shore could sign soon
James Mirtle: Free agent center Nick Shore is getting interest from around the league and could sign a deal soon. Despite the Toronto Maple Leafs need for some added depth down the middle, don’t get the sense that Leafs are one of the teams interested.
