Canucks not moving Eriksson for another back contract

Sportsnet 650: Dan Murphy on Sportsnet 650 on Vancouver Canucks forward Loui Eriksson: “You’re not trading him for another bad contract because you don’t have that cap space. I believe they had something close to being done at the deadline for Lucic, but it never went through because I’ve heard Eriksson would not wave to go to Edmonton.”

Brock Boeser waiting for his piece of the pie

Jessi Pierce of NHL.com: Vancouver Canucks restricted free agent Brock Boeser is excited what the Canucks have added this offseason and is confident they’ll get a deal worked out.

The Canucks have spent on Micheal Ferland, J.T. Miller, Tyler Myers and Jordie Benn, now Boeser wants his piece according to agent Ben Hankinson.

” spending a lot of money and they’re making the team better, which is great, and Brock wants a piece of that pie too,” Hankinson said. “We have to figure out how big of a piece he gets. The big things are, is it a one-year deal or an eight-year deal? And we’re working to hit that sweet spot.

“We are open to anything. We just have to go through the process a little more. There’s a lot of back and forth, a lot of pounding your head against the wall from our side and their side. We just haven’t gotten there yet.”

Canucks GM Jim Benning said they have a plan and will continue to work towards a Boeser deal. They could look to make a trade(s) to free up more cap space or use LTIR if need be.

“If we can move players, it makes it easier, but if we can’t move players we still have a plan in place to be compliant. One option is to go into with Roussel because with his injury he is probably not going to be back until November, December, but we have a bunch of different plans in place to make sure we have enough room.”
