Baertschi will be ready for camp

Rick Dhaliwal: There has been some talk about Sven Baertschi’s health/concussions/playing future but his agent has said that he’ll be ready for training camp and is 100 percent.

Eriksson is only owed $8 million over the final three seasons

Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province: (July 8th article) Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning said there was “no update” when asked about the Loui Eriksson situation.

Benning would like to talk to Eriksson about his May comments about coach Travis Green as it seems that they spoken about it yet.

Trading Eriksson might be one move Benning is considering as he may be looking to shed some salary. They still need to sign RFA Brock Boeser.

Eriksson won’t be easy to move at a $6 million cap hit. They also have overpayment contracts for Jay Beagle and Brandon Sutter. Roberto Luongo’s cap recapture penalty didn’t help. They were able to sign free agent defensemen Tyler Myers, Jordie Benn and Oscar Fantenberg.

Eriksson’s agent J.P. Barry said last month that fresh start for Eriksson somewhere else may not be a bad idea.

“For a lot of hockey reasons it might be better for Loui to play somewhere else,” he said of his client, who has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Eriksson has three years left on his deal but is only owed $8 million in salary total.

His salary cap hit may help a team like the Ottawa Senators reach the salary floor but would Eriksson want to go to Ottawa.

Barry says Eriksson and Benning have spoken

TSN Radio Vancouver: J.P. Barry on Eriksson: “Him and Jim have spoken about that and we have to go from here, I mean we have spoken about a lot of things whether it is staying playing or finding a new home so we will need to continue discussing that.”

TSN Radio Vancouver: Barry on Eriksson’s comments to the Swedish media: “I do think things were a little bit overblown, maybe they weren’t translating the Swedish that well..”
