NHL Rumors: Vegas, Stars, Leafs, Habs, Penguins, Capitals, Wild and Canucks

Alexei Emelin
On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Darren Dreger thinks Vegas will be selecting Dallas Stars center Cody Eakin.

Dreger also said that he’s heard rumblings that Vegas will select Brandon Leipsic from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Frank Seravalli: Looking like Vegas will select Alexei Emelin from the Canadiens.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Pierre LeBrun: People are asking why the Penguins are sending a draft pick to Vegas to select Marc-Andre Fleury. It does make sense though. The Penguins and Golden Knights may have had the deal done awhile ago.

Pierre LeBrun: Think that the Penguins may have been worried that the goalie market would be flooded, with Vegas having plenty of options. They had to make sure that Vegas took Fleury.

On the Washington Capitals …

Pierre LeBrun: Karl Alzner and Jordan Weal‘s agent, J.P. Barry, said he had some interesting talks with Vegas. He added that both Alzner and Weal will wait and speak with more teams.

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Not sure who Vegas plans on selecting. Have been told that Nate Schmidt‘s camp hasn’t heard a thing yet. If Vegas intends to trade a selected player, there may not be a lot of notice given.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Michael Russo: Clarifying deal between Minnesota and Vegas – the Wild are getting the conditional draft pick with Erik Haula and Alex Tuch going to Vegas.

Michael Russo: Haula’s contract with Vegas is believed to be for three years.

Michael Russo: Sources saying the forward Jordan Schroeder was recently told by the Wild that they won’t be qualifying him. He would become a UFA.

Michael Russo: Something could obviously change and they circle back to him. They have lost Graovac, Haula and Tuch.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Matthew Sekeres: The Canucks will likely lose either forward Brendan Gaunce or defenseman Luca Sbisa in the expansion draft and not a surprise pick.

Matthew Sekeres: If the Canucks lose Sbisa in the draft, the chances of the Canucks trading a defenseman like Chris Tanev or Erik Gudbranson would go down significantly.
