- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Paul Stastny is able to start talking to teams next Wednesday.
“We’re hopeful we can sign him,” Sakic said. “We have our structure, and I know he understands that. He’s earned the right to be unrestricted. If he chooses that path, he has the right to do that and see what’s out there. But we’re definitely hopeful to keep Paul here.”
Joe Sakic on Ryan O’Reilly.
“It was our right, part of the CBA window that we had to file for an arbitration hearing. I talked to Pat Morris (O’Reilly’s agent) a couple times and told him that if we didn’t have an agreement that was what we were planning on doing,” Sakic said. “We’re still trying to sign Ryan. Ryan is part of our core, he’s a tremendous hockey player that we want to have here. We’re hopeful we can accomplish that, but we have our structure and he falls right in with the rest of our core. We’re hopeful it’ll work out, but if it doesn’t we know we’ll have an arbitrator tell us what he’ll make.”
Patrick Roy said they have some free agent targets in mind if they are available on July 1st. If they are not able to re-sign Stastny, they’d be in the market to add a scorer.
- Adrian Dater: Joe Sakic: “Our intention is to have Ryan a Colorado Avalanche for a long time” … “We just have a different point of view on where the starting point is” … “His agent, Pat, seems to think he signed a one-year, $6.5 million deal and forgot about the $3.5 million first year”
- Adrian Dater: Joe Sakic said that serious contract talks with Paul Stastny will start next week.
- Adrian Dater: Joe Sakic: “We’re not going to have an outdoor game this year, but be’re very hopeful that we’ll have one the year after”
