Why would the St. Louis Blues want to move a centerman like Robert Thomas?

The Sick Podcast – The Eye Test: Andy Strickland when asked about the speculation surrounding St. Louis Blues centerman Robert Thomas. He’s the Blues’ only dynamic center. Why would they move him?

Jimmy Murphy: “It appears Doug Armstrong now is, is listening on, I don’t know if saying everything is an overstatement, but listening on a lot of players right now. The biggest surprise we hear, though, in my opinion, is that he’d be willing to even listen on Robert Thomas. How real is that, right now?

Strickland: “I don’t know. I mean, listen, if you know Doug Armstrong, he’s not talking to a lot of the people that are putting this news out. It’s like a lot of people come up with different ideas and theories, and I get it.

Who’s the toughest players, what position is the toughest to find in the National Hockey League?

Pierre McGuire: “Right defense and center.

Strickland: “Right defense and center. Okay, so the Blues aren’t very dynamic at the center position. He’s the only dynamic center that they really have. I mean, they have other good centers. Pius Suter’s a good center. Brayden Schenn‘s a good center. But they wouldn’t be classified as dynamic offensive players.

Certainly at this stage of Schenn’s career. I mean, he can still produce and be very effective. Love Schenner as a player. And Puis Suter has actually been a great fit here in St Louis. Not the biggest guy, but, you know, he scores a lot of goals around the blue paint. Really respect his game.

So if you’re getting rid of Robert Thomas, there’s somebody better be coming back the other way, who can fill that void. Because he is your number one center. He may not be the number one center on every team, but he’s pretty damn good.

NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, and the St. Louis Blues

And Blues are looking to add centers. You know, they want defensemen. They want centers. They got enough wingers right now. When you look at the team, they need to add center iceman. And the best way to do that wouldn’t be by moving Robert Thomas. So again, anybody could be moved if the right players are coming back the other way.”
