On the Minnesota Wild and Matt Dumba …
Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune: Contract talks between the Minnestoa Wild and RFA Matt Dumba are ongoing. Wild assistant GM Brent Flahr and Dumba’s agent Craig Oster are expected to meet during the Hockey Canada camp in Calgary.
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Steve Ewen: The Canucks might go after Buffalo Sabres Evander Kane, but it’s doubtful they have the assets to acquire him in a trade.
On the Boston Bruins …
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: (mailbag) If the Boston Bruins are able to sign pending free agent Jimmy Vesey, it could lead to some additional moves to their roster with regards to talent and the salary cap. Everything is quiet at the moment for the Bruins.
Get the sense that though he’ll listen to what his dad has to say, Vesey will make the decision on what he feels is best for him and his career.
If the Bruins are able to get Vesey, they could pull off a trade for possibly one of Jonas Brodin, Matt Dumba, Kevin Shattenkirk, Cam Fowler, Jacob Trouba, Tyson Barrie or maybe someone else.
Bruins players that could be in play include Adam McQuaid, Frank Vatrano, and Ryan Spooner.
If the Bruins are out of it by the trade deadline, they should explore trading defenseman Zdeno Chara.
Don’t think Kris Russell or James Wisniewski would be fits for the Bruins unless they don’t like what they see from some of their young defensemen during training camp. They were considering Russell at one point, but he may still be looking for too much money.
If they can sign Vesey, they could look to trade Vatrano or Spooner and a first round pick to the Blues for Shattenkirk. Another option could be once David Krejci shows he’s healthy, trading him for Shattenkirk in-season.
