The Fourth Period: The San Jose Sharks could be looking to be both buyers and sellers at the March 6th NHL trade deadline. It’s believed that Sharks GM Mike Grier is talking to teams about upgrading their blue line and middle-six, as well as listening on some of their pending UFAs.

Pending free agents include forwards Jeff Skinner and Ryan Reaves, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, and defencemen Mario Ferraro, Timothy Liljegren, Nick Leddy, John Klingberg and Vincent Desharnais.

Grier is looking for early to mid-20s top-four defenseman that has some term left on his contract. Upfront, the Sharks have been linked to Vancouver Canucks Kiefer Sherwood and St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou. The Sharks have $8.125 million in salary cap space for this season, and a projected $54.5 million next year.
