Don’t expect a trade to fix the Winnipeg Jets

TSN: The Winnipeg Jets have lost Connor Hellebuyck and are struggling. They are having defensive issues, something that Hellebuyck was able to mask, and there’s no quick trade fix, they’ll have to figure it out, according to Darren Dreger.

“There’s no trade that’s going to help this. What may help it is a players only meeting, which they had after a humbling loss Monday to the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo to re-establish that commitment to playing better defence, the identity of the Winnipeg Jets.”

NHL Injuries: Bruins, Blackhawks, Avs, Stars, Flyers, Blues, Leafs, Canucks and More

Some teams will be watching how Laurent Brossoit’s conditioning stint goes

TSN: Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit’s coming off double hip surgery and is going on an AHL conditioning stint. There’s no spot for him in Chicago, but there will be some trade interest if things go well, according to Chris Johnston.

“Brossoit’s agent Ray Petkau has been given permission to speak to other teams to see if there’s interest. There certainly is some out there. They’ll be watching how he makes out in his return to the AHL and he will be a goalie that’s available in the near future.”

Who is looking to add?

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman, on some teams that are looking to make some moves.

Justin Bourne: “It sure seems like every name we hear mentioned is tied to Montreal. Montreal thinks they’re going to do this here. Do they?

Friedman: “They’re a big one. Yeah, Montreal is one. I would say New Jersey. Like the way New Jersey played with all…”

Bourne: “Because of Hughes or separate from Hughes?

Friedman: “Also, like, look at the way they’ve played for the most part, Justin. They’ve had, before (Luke) Hughes went down, they were 13-4-1 with a ton of injuries, right? So I think they feel pretty good about themselves.

New Jersey, Carolina, Ottawa, you know …”

Bourne: “Ottawa?

NHL Rumors: The Maple Leafs and Sabres Talked Brandon Carlo in the Offseason

Friedman: “Yeah, I think they’re looking ahead. I do. I think they think they’re in their window right now. Their contract situation dictates that they’re in their window right now.

Dallas, Colorado. Like I think there’s teams here that are waiting.”
