Cheveldayoff’s hands tied

@Prospects_Watch: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 said that Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was really boxed in with regards to trading Jacob Trouba.

Trouba had made it clear that there were only specific teams that he’d go to, and Dreger believes that list may have only had one or two teams on it.

On Sharks pending UFA Pavelski

Craig Custance: As of yesterday had been told that the re-signing of Erik Karlsson didn’t close the door on free agent Joe Pavelski re-signing. Contract talks between the sides have been ‘cordial.’ Not sure how the Sharks will be able to fit him in though.

Kevin Kurz: Would not assume (after the Justin Braun trade) that the Sharks will re-sign Joe Pavelski.

Don’t believe they are close on anything.

The moving of Braun’s cap hit makes a deal more likely than before, but it’s not a slam dunk that a deal gets done.

Adrian Dater: If Pavelski isn’t going to re-sign with the Sharks, have heard that the Minnesota Wild may interest him. It is closer to ‘home.’ Money from somewhere else can always change things.

Kevin Kurz: Guessing that the Sharks may be interested in extending defenseman Brenden Dillon. He has a year left on his deal and was Erik Karlsson partner when Karlsson was at his best.

Canucks looking at defensemen

Rick Dhaliwal: The Vancouver Canucks have spoken with the Buffalo Sabres about a defenseman. Not sure if they have discussed Rasmus Ristolainen or Zach Bogosian.

Lance Lysowski: Bogosian has had hip surgery and is expected to miss the start of the season. He’ll be a UFA next offseason.

On Canucks defenseman Alex Edler

TSN Radio Vancouver: Craig Button on Canucks Alex Edler: “Anything longer 3 years is too much. He could probably get it b/c teams think they need that player and are ready to overpay but then they run themselves into salary cap issues.”

Canucks could check out Goldobin’s trade value

Rick Dhaliwal: Believe the Vancouver Canucks will qualify restricted free agent Nikolay Goldobin, but also believe that they will check out his trade market ahead of the draft.
