More on the Oilers-Flyers Talbot talk
TSN: Darren Dreger said that trade talks between the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers were very preliminary.
“What’s interesting though is Cam Talbot does also have the modified no-trade clause and the Oilers needed permission to talk to the Philadelphia Flyers and my understanding is they were granted the right to talk to the Flyers.
Now the expectation is that Edmonton would have to get a goalie back, maybe it’s Stolarz, maybe its McKenna, but the sweet deal in all of this, aside from giving Cam Talbot a fresh opportunity, is the cap relief and they need that to make room for Andrej Sekera.”
The Calgary Flames could be market for a goaltender
Frank Seravalli of TSN: Darren Dreger has reported that the Calgary Flames have looked at the goaltending market and have kicked tires on Detroit Red Wings Jimmy Howard.
Flames GM Brad Treliving has to weigh his goaltending situation against his other wants and needs. Do they go after a forward like Senators Mark Stone. They may not have the assets for both.
Other teams that might be looking for goaltending help include the Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers.
The Avalanche and Hurricanes don’t appear to be actively looking for help, same goes for the Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils who may need help.
Goaltenders who could be available include Howard, Sergei Bobrovsky and Cam Talbot.
The Flames may have internally talked about Los Angeles Kings Jonathan Quick, but the Kings may not be interested in moving him at this time.
TSN: Bob McKenzie said that there have been some questions regarding the Flames goaltending situation and whether they need to add a goaltender or not.
“Do they go get a rental like Jimmy Howard from the Detroit Red Wings? Or do they go to the Los Angeles Kings and try to see if Jonathan Quick might be a longer term solution for the Calgary net.”
Options are on the table. Management does seem to have more faith in their goaltending than fans and the media do.
