Things appeared to be bleak as far as William Nylander staying in Toronto. However, at the last minute, the forward inked a new six year deal. This new contract will pay him just a shade under $7 million AAV for six seasons.
Bob McKenzie has the breakdown of the deal as follows:
First year salary is pro rated $10M salary (6.77 M) plus a full $2M signing bonus. Net number of $8.77M. AAV of $10.2M.
In out years, the AAV is $6.996M.
In year two, base salary is $700K, SB of $8.3M.
In remaining years, $2.5M in base salary plus $3.5M SB.
Also important to note that Nylander gets a ten team NTC included in the final year of the deal only. The first five years presents no such luxury.
More details will come later as the numbers are examined — including potential for trade, impacts on line usage, and more.
