NHL Trade: Canadiens Acquire Jordie Benn From The Stars

Dallas Stars trade Jordie Benn to the Montreal Canadiens

The Dallas Stars have traded defenseman Jordie Benn to the Montreal Canadiens for Greg Pateryn and a 2017 4th round pick.

The 29-year old Benn was undrafted. He carries a $1.1 million salary cap hit for two more years.

The 26-year old Pateryn was drafted 128th overall in the 5th round of the 2008 draft by the Maple Leafs. He carries a $800,000 cap hit for another year.

Thoughts from the media …

Brian Wilde: “Benn is a defenceman who shoots left. He’s a steady d-man. He won’t give you anything flashy. Only -3 on a bad team. 2nd pair D. Well done.”

Arpon Basu: “Frankly, getting anything for an unhappy Greg Pateryn who for a reason I will never understand wasn’t going to get a shot makes good sense.”

Eric Engels: “Pateryn has 82 games of NHL experience under his belt. Hadn’t been able to gain a consistent spot in MTL’s lineup since 2012.”

Arpon Basu: “Two more years at $1.1 million for Jordie Benn, 29, seems like a good situation for Habs.”
