Some thoughts from the media …

Mark Lazerus: “Richard Panik’s contract was one of Stan Bowman’s biggest mistakes. Good on him to realize it and get rid of it quickly rather than be stubborn about it.”

NHL Numbers: “Panik has 16 points in 37 games and has one year after this at $2.8M – Duclair has 15 points in 33 games and will be an RFA after this season – Laurent Daupin was involved in the Nik Hjalmarsson deal this summer – Adam Clendening is… Adam Clendening”

Matt Larkin: “This Duclair acquisition is reason #156 why the Hawks are the Patriots of the NHL. Find players with upside at bargain prices. Even Panik was one of those when they first got him!”

Sean Shapiro: “Stan Bowman always finds a trade or a loophole to get out of a bad contract. It’s rather impressive”

Jonathan Willis: “Chicago is getting a guy who can play, and for not much money.”

Jonathan Willis: “Clendening won’t count against the cap because he’s only making $650K, but as it’s a one-way deal including him the other way allows Arizona to reduce the real dollars it’s taking on.”

Brennan Klak: “Dauphin was originally with the before being part of the Hjalmarsson deal. Panik carries a 2.8M cap hit. Looking at it right now, win due to Duclair’s upside but this deal is full of inconsistency.”
