The Florida Panthers trade Erik Gudbranson to the Vancouver Canucks

The Florida Panthers have traded defenseman Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 5th round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for center Jared McCann, a 2016 2nd and 4th round picks.

Gudbranson was drafted 3rd overall in the first round of the 2010 draft by Florida Panthers.

McCann was drafted 24th overall in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Vancouver Canucks.

General Fanager: “#Canucks 2016 picks: VAN 1, VAN 3, NYI 5, VAN 6, VAN 7, CAR 7 #Panthers: FLA 1, VAN 2, VAN 4, FLA 4, FLA 6, ANA 6″

Iain MacIntyre: “#Canucks liked McCann, but they have accummulated some young forwards. They needed a young defenceman. Size/toughness w Gudbranson.”

George Richards: “#FlaPanthers defense very deep, but Erik Gudbranson looked at as future captain material. Was about to cost them a lot of $$ though..”

Jason Brough: “Gudbranson is big and tough. The only thing that people wonder is whether he’s a very good hockey player. This is such a Benning trade.”

Cap Friendly: “can confirm that #Panthers will have a bonus overage of roughly $1.42M next season. Trading Gudbranson also saves FLA cap space”

Corey Pronman: “Basically VAN fans don’t jump off the ledge just yet, but you’re going to want your jumping shoes if McCann puts up a 50 pt yr within 3 ssns”
