The Vegas Golden Knights have traded defenseman Marc Methot to the Dallas Stars for a 2020 2nd round pick and goalie prospect Dylan Ferguson.

The 32-year old Methot was drafted 168th overall in the sixth round of the 2003 draft by the Blue Jackets. He carries a $4.9 million cap hit for the next two years.

The 18-year old Ferguson was drafted 194th in the seventh round of the 2017 draft by the Stars.

Thoughts from the media …

Pierre LeBrun: “The Stars have been on Methot from the get-go but price had to come down a bit; plus also helpful that year of pick was 2020”

Bruce Garrioch: “Led to believe the ask from the to protect Methot was a first-round pick in 2018.”

SinBin.Vegas: “VGK now has 3 2nd round picks in 2019 and 2020. Looks like direct player for 1st round picks is over, but they have assets to get more 1sts.”

Cap Friendly: “meanwhile, back in , McPhee continues to stockpile draft picks for the future. They already have 11 picks in 2019, and 9 picks in 2020″

Mark Spector: “Exactly what Stars required. Marc Methot, and of course, Ben Bishop. They’ll be good again.”

Jim Matheson: “If all Vegas could get for Methot was 2nd rounder 3 yrs from now from Dallas and a goalie taken 194th in draft, why take him from Ottawa?”

Jonathan Willis: “With Methot worth only a 2nd (in 2020!), VGK can’t be expecting much for Garrison, Sbisa, Emelin or Stoner. They drafted lots of pricey D.”

Steve Conroy: “Awfully good deal for Dallas”

Andrew Berkshire: “Only one defenseman in the NHL last year touched the puck less per minute played than Marc Methot: Mark Borowiecki”
