The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Ron Hainsey to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2017 2nd round pick and Danny Kristo.
The 35-year old Hainsey was drafted 13th overall in the 1st round of the 2000 draft by the Montreal Canadiens. Hainsey carries a $2.83 million cap hit.
The 26-year old Kristo was drafted 56th overall in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He carries a $575,000 NHL cap hit.
Chris Johnston: The Hurricanes retain 50 percent of Hainsey’s contract.
