Thoughts from the media …

Cap Friendly: “Mike Hoffman – 2 x 5,187,500 ($11.3M in salary remaining) Cody Donaghey – 1 x $641,667 (ELC) Mikkel Boedker – 2 x $4,000,000 ($6M in salary remaining) Julius Bergman – 1 x $714,167 (ELC) save $1,187,500 per season in cap space. save $5,300,000 in total salary paid.”

Ian Mendes: “Fun fact: Mikkel Boedker is the only player to ever score two hat tricks against Ottawa in the same season. Did it as a member of the Arizona Coyotes in 2015-16.”

Don Brennan: “As a 17 year old, Hoffman was waived by a Kitchener Rangers team coached by Pete DeBoer, now the bench boss of the

Tom Gulitti: “I wonder what the Sharks’ acquisition of Mike Hoffman means about their pursuit of Ilya Kovalchuk. A lot of teams interested in Kovalchuk.”

Shawn Simpson: “Sens enter next year with two top 6 forwards in Stone & Duchene, and possibly Dzingle.”

Shawn Simpson: “As I said last week. Hoffman value went way down after the Karlsson story. IMO Dorion was lucky to move the player and contract.”

Ryan Kennedy: “I’ll say this: San Jose has a very strong dressing room culture. Clearly they think they can handle Hoffman’s (alleged) baggage”

Cap Friendly: “Mike Hoffman has a Modified NTC as part of his contract, which allowed him to list 10 teams he would not approve a trade to. The clause went into effect last summer (his first year of ‘would-be’ UFA eligibility) and runs till his contract expires in 2020.”

Shawn Simpson: “Sens get Hoffman speed back with Boedker, but half the talent. In the end they had to move the player, try to smooth out the room. But there’s a step back, with no future gain.”

Ian Mendes: “Gotta hand it to Doug Wilson and the Sharks. Rolled the dice on Evander Kane and now doing it with Mike Hoffman. It’s hard to find goal scorers in this league, but San Jose is willing to put up with some baggage – either real or perceived – to acquire high-end skill.”

Darren Dreger: “Hoffman will do well in San Jose. Ottawa gets a decent 2 way forward in Boedker and saves a bit of money.”
