The Vegas Golden Knights have traded defenseman Alexei Emelin to the Nashville Predators for a 2019 3rd round pick.

The 31-year old Emelin was drafted 84th overall in the 3rd round of the 2004 draft by the Canadiens.

Pierre LeBrun: Vegas retained $1.2 million in salary.

Thoughts from the media …

Bob McKenzie: “At this point, I’d say NSH’s intention is to keep Emelin in lineup, not necessarily to set up another trade:”

AJ Haefele: “Adding Emelin gives Nashville 8 NHL D, assuming Bitetto sticks. It is Nashville so they could simply keep him.”

AJ Haefele: “Does strike me as odd that a team like NSH who spends money very carefully is adding $4M in salary to potentially be a third pairing D.”

L.A. Lariviere: “When your 5th D is Emelin, you’ve got a helluva blueline. Poile all in.
