The Winnipeg Jets have traded left winger Andrew Ladd, Jay Harrison and Matt Fraser to the Chicago Blackhawks for Marco Dano, a 2016 first round pick and a conditional 2018 3rd round pick – if the Blackhawks win the cup.

Darren Dreger: The Jets are retaining 36 percent of Ladd’s remaining salary.

General Fanager: “Winnipeg saves $606,774 in salary rest of the season:

CHI: Ladd $681,290 Harrison $248,387 Fraser $76,881
WPG Ladd $383,225 Dano $16,559”

The 30 year old Ladd was drafted for 4th overall in the 2004 draft by the Hurricanes. He carries a $4.4 million cap hit.

The 33 year old Harrison was drafted 82nd overall in the 2001 draft by the Maple Leafs. He carries a $1.5 million cap hit.

The 25 year old Fraser was undrafted. He has a $650,000 cap hit.

The 21 year old Dano was drafted 27th overall in the 2013 draft by the Blue Jackets. He carries a $925,000 cap hit.

Thoughts from the media:

Dan Rosen: “Ladd is exactly the type of player the Blackhawks needed. He can play LW with Toews and Hossa. He has won. He knows the org. It should work.”

Adrian Dater: “Blackhawks felt they needed real top-6 forward to play with Toews. Didn’t want to have to rely on an Andrew Shaw on his line”

Mark Lazerus: “Fraser and Harrison to Rockford.”

Shawn Simpson: “Credit the Hawks. They’ve become the modern day Wings. Always pushing the limits. Anything left for Hamhuis?”

Allan Walsh: “As I’ve said often, GM’s have a tendency to make trades with GM’s they’re connected to in some way. Chevy was Assistant GM in Chicago.”

Chris Johnston: “So CHI can add ~$1.6M on deadline day, and much more if they deal a buried contract (Scuderi/Bickell).”

CapFriendly: “Marko Dano is a former first round pick has 2 years left on his ELC. Currently playing in the AHL. Dano was part of the CBJ trade for Saad.”

James Mirtle: “Winnipeg gets a haul for Andrew Ladd, who goes to Blackhawks. They were pushing hard for a roster player. Heard they asked for Teravainen.”
