A trade will eventually happen for the Montreal Canadiens, but it could take some time
The Sick Podcast with Tony Marino: Stu Cowan, talking about the Montreal Canadiens and trade speculation. There is no rush, and it could happen soon, or it could happen at the start of the season or maybe later, but Cowan thinks it will happen before December.

“I mean, it’s one of those things that, you know, (Canadiens GM) Kent Hughes, he met with us after the trade deadline said, you know, he wished he’d made a trade yesterday or was able to make a trade yesterday.
Are we shifting to “if” Quinn Hughes extends with the Minnesota Wild and not “when”?
And he said he couldn’t say when it would come. He said it could be July. That didn’t happen. Could be August. He said it could be September. It could be October. It could be November.
Why is the reason to believe? Because they’re not going to rush into anything. They’re not going to panic into anything. There’s all kinds, I mean, Arber Xhekaj still not signed. Zachary Bolduc still not signed. I think last time I was on with you, I think that might factor into what’s going on. Whether those are going to end up being, Arber Xhekaj would be more likely to be moved, I think, than Bolduc. So whether it’s a sign-and-trade deal with Xhekaj they might put in place or something like that. There’s a lot of balls in the air when it comes to it.
So there’s no deadline on when he can make this trade, and there’s no rush to do it. So it could happen tomorrow. It could happen in October. It could happen in November. I don’t think that if they don’t do it this summer, that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.
It just means that Kent Hughes, injuries can happen, which can change things that happen with team. The Michael Hage situation: is he going to change his mind and maybe come to Montreal for training camp? Maybe he’s the second-line center when we open the season.

There’s a lot of things that can still happen between now and the start of the season. And there’s no, you know, some fans are maybe getting upset and wondering why he hasn’t done anything yet. But one thing they’ve been, patience has been a virtue for this management team since they started is rebuild, and that hasn’t changed.
So again, it could happen at any time. But I mean, I don’t see us going into December or something like that without a trade being made.”
