Capitals re-sign Stephenson but his spot isn’t guaranteed

Cap Friendly: The Washington Capitals have signed forward Chandler Stephenson to a one-year at an AAV of $1.05 million.

Stephenson and the Capitals had an arbitration hearing for August 1st. He’ll be arbitration eligible and again next offseason.

Cap Friendly: The Capitals will now have another buyout window that opens on Monday and goes till Wednesday.

If they are going to buy out someone, they must have a salary of at least $3,445,438 and that player had to have been on their reserve list at the trade deadline.

Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: The Capitals are now $1.3 million over the salary cap ceiling of $81.5 million after re-signing Stephenson.

Capitals management wasn’t happy with their fourth line last year and Stephenson’s spot may not be guaranteed. Stephenson, along with someone like Travis Boyd could find themselves on waivers.

The Rangers re-signed Buchnevich

Larry Brooks: The New York Rangers have signed forward Pavel Buchnevich to a two-year contract with an AAV of $3.25 million.

NYR Stats & Info: “Pavel Buchnevich led #NYR (min. 10 games played) in goals per 60 minutes of ice time (1.30) and ranked fourth among all Rangers in points per 60 minutes of ice time (2.35) in 2018-19. In addition, 30 of his 38 points in 2018-19 were either a goal or the primary assist on a goal.”

The Red Wings re-sign Turgeon

Pete Wallner: The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed Dominic Turgeon to a one-year deal.

Puck Pedia: Turgeon will get $700,000 in the NHL, $80,000 in the minors with $90,000 guaranteed.

Scherbak on Russians in Montreal
