CBA update

Pierre LeBrun: The NHL and NHLPA are set to continue CBA talks tomorrow.

Pierre LeBrun: NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr said they updated players last night and had some good discussions. No decision to re-open the CBA or not has been made.

Pierre LeBrun: Fehr said that they haven’t discussed the possibility of extending the opt-out deadline of September 15th. Both the NHL and NHLPA would have to agree and gets the sense that the NHL would not be interested in that.

Stephen Whyno: Fehr: “Nothing happens on Sept. 16 if there’s a reopening that’s made or something like that. And you’ve got to hope that the discussions will proceed on the basis that both sides want a deal and however difficult it is, you’re going to try and find a way to make one.”

A couple of RFA signings

Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider: The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Adrian Kempe to a three-year contract worth $6 million.

Irfaan Gaffar: The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Nikolai Goldobin to a one-year deal for $900,000.

PTOs for the Flames and Panthers

Calgary Flames: Players agreeing to PTOs yesterday include Devante Smith-Pelly, Tobias Rieder, Zac Rinaldo and Alexandre Grenier.

Florida Panthers PR: Forward Troy Brouwer will be attending the Panthers training camp on a PTO. He played 75 games for the Panthers last season.

To read into it or not?

Alex Thomas: Free agent defenseman Adam McQuaid skated with some Boston Bruins players yesterday. Could the Bruins look at bringing him to camp on a PTO with Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy still unsigned?

Injured Leaf

Lance Hornby: Toronto Maple Leafs winger Garrett Wilson will miss part of training camp with a hamstring injury.
