Quick hits on the CBA: NHLPA vote, cap floor, recapture formula, trading of contracts
Mark Easson
Renaud Lavoie via twitter: The NHLPA vote hasn’t been scheduled yet. Thursday is a possibility. The CBA would need to be on paper by then.
James Mirtle via twitter: The salary cap floor will be 15% below the midpoint, and not $16 million below the cap ceiling like it was under the old CBA.
James Mirtle via twitter: 100% confirmation that there will be a cap benefit recapture formula in the new CBA. It will count for all existing contracts “in excess of six years.”
Brian Lawton via twitter: Some CBA details that haven’t been elaborated on “clubs can trade 50% of up to 3 contracts, not to exceed 15% of the max salary cap limit. This will get the math geeks working overtime. Use Van as and example and come up with some scenarios!!! I am told that contract variability rules will apply differently to both front loaded and back end loaded contracts…..each spec defined”
