Rumors and Notes: Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars

Rumors and notes on Dallas Stars Tyler Seguin
Would the Bruins be interested in Tyler Seguin?

Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Tyler Seguin told reporters last week that there have been no negotiations with the Dallas Stars about a contract extension.

Seguin could top $10 million a season.

Maybe GM Jim Nill is wanting to see if he can trade for defenseman Erik Karlsson before locking Seguin up, or maybe Nill is wanting to see how Seguin plays under new head coach Jim Montgomery.

The Boston Bruins shouldn’t be in the running for Seguin if he hits the open market next offseason. If Seguin becomes a rental player at the trade deadline, the Bruins should be interested.

Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports: Tyler Seguin could be looking for John Tavares on his next contract.

Haggerty doesn’t think that Bruins president Cam Neely would be interested in giving Seguin a large long-term deal if he became available.

Seguin would cost a lot, and he hasn’t had a lot of success in the playoffs. Though you can “Never say never.”

Notes on the Stars and Tyler Seguin heading into training camp

Sean Shapiro of The Athletic: The Stars and Tyler Seguin’s camp talked about a contract extension back at the draft in June. There has been some talk this summer, but not much has changed.

Stars GM Jim Nill was going to keep things quiet with regards to how talks are going and has stated several times for people not to panic if Seguin isn’t signed before the start of the season.

Nill has said contract talks are more about the market, and where the market could be heading.

Multiple sources have noted that Stars may not want to pay anyone more than what they are paying Jamie Benn – $9.5 million per season. Not known if that is still the case, but it likely would take more than Benn’s salary to get Seguin signed.

Seguin hasn’t been in Dallas much this offseason, but he has had some positive talks with their new coach Jim Montgomery.

He has stated that he is happy playing in Dallas and enjoys the city.
