- The Fourth Period: Teams that have called the Sabres about Tyler Myers: Red Wings, Ducks, Flyers, Hurricanes and Avalanche. With the asking price a top-tier young forward in a package for Myers, the Red Wings have been looking at other options. Wing GM Ken Hollanded is thought to have inquired about Keith Yandle and Zach Bogosian. Eric Brewer and Marc Methot are defenseman that are available.
- Jimmy Murphy: Source says that the Sabres have talked to the Red Wings about Tyler Myers, but have also spoke with “multiple” teams about him. As Darren Dreger said this morning, the asking price is high. Based on what has been said, don’t expect a deal real soon.
- TSN’s Insider Trading: Darren Dreger: A Jeff Petry trade may not be imminent, but the Oilers would entertain the possibility. Maybe in a package for a center or as little as a draft pick.
Pierre LeBrun: LeBrun thinks it would take a five-year deal at $5 million per season to get a deal done between Marc Methot and the Senators. Their last offer was for $4.7 million per season, with contract talks expected to continue this week. He could be traded if he doesn’t sign an extension in the next month.
- Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger on TSN 1040 Radio on Oilers Jeff Petry.
“Again, it all depends on what they’re asking for. If Edmonton is thinking they’re going to fill a spot and need at the center position, then they’re going to have to sweeten it and I don’t know that Yakupov and Petry combined is enough to get you a bonafide No. 2. Maybe it is. I guess it depends on who we’re talking about. There aren’t that many players available. We’re not five games into the regular season yet. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Petry is traded a month, maybe two months for a draft pick. Because I know MacTavish and company see good things in Darnell Nurse, who’s playing tonight, and potentially Oscar Klefbom as well.”
- David Staples: The only thing that makes sense with regards to benching Petry, is that the Oilers are thinking of trading him.
