Bob McKenzie took to twitter the other day answering some draft question. Here are the good ones.
- See layers when doing draft rankings: Top two, top five, top 11, top 20, scattergun
- Strickly McKenzie’s opinion and not fact based: believe the Maple Leafs would like Mitch Marner. If Noah Hanifin is there, it would give them something to think about. If Marner isn’t there and they have to choose between Hanifin and Dylan Strome, and think they would take Hanifin.
- Wouldn’t be a surprise if the Coyotes draft Strome and the Leafs have to decide between Marner and Hanifin.
- TSN’s top 5 (McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Marner and Strome) will likely be gone by the time the Flyers pick at No. 7. Who will the Devils pick at No. 6? Options for Flyers could be Ivan Provorov or a big winger in Mikko Rantanen or Timo Meier.
- The Lawson Crouse Debate: not as prolific as some of the others, but scouts love his game. Think he’ll go between five to 10 and unlikely to fall out of the top 10.
- Ilya Samsonov is perceived by many as a potential building block goalie, like Andrej Vasilevsky in Tampa Bay. The Oilers don’t have one. Would need patience with him though.
- After their first pick, the Oilers should focus on a goalie and defense and not a strong two-way center like Colin White.
- Don’t know who the Oilers are going to take at No. 16, but multiple scouts have been suggesting they should be looking at Samsonov.
