- Andy Strickland: Jets Evander Kane was scratched for violation of the teams dress code and wearing a track suit to the arena.
- Bob McKenzie: Said before the season that this has to be year that the Jets and Evander Kane fully commit to each other or they need to come to the realization that they need to go their separate ways. Suspect they are at a crossroads.
- Craig Custance: If the Jets do trade Kane, it would be hard to pull off in-season. It’s a trade that may be better suited for the draft.
- The Fourth Period: Kane has been in the rumors in the past, the this could be the year he’s moved. He has three years left at $5.25 million and is a valuable asset that could use a change of scenery. He has battled some injuries that he’s played through, but it’s his off-ice actions that concern the Jets. The Canadiens and Flyers have shown interest in Kane in the past. If the Jets were to move him, they’ll likely want a top-six forward, a prospect and a draft pick.
- Bruce Garrioch: Senators GM Bryan Murray and Chris Neil have in the last 24 hours. The situation is fluid and there are some decisions that will need to be made before March 2nd.
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Appears more likely that Chris Neil will be traded by the deadline. Several teams have reached out to Neil’s agent to express their interest and to find out if Neil would consider leaving Ottawa. Neil has a limited no-trade clause that has 15 teams that he won’t accept a trade too. He has year left on his deal at $1.9 million cap hit, but a $1.5 million salary. The Predators are one team that is interested according to a source. Source also saying the Blackhawks are interested, but due to their cap situation, would have to move out a roster player.The Predators and Mike Fisher have had preliminary talks about a contract extension. The Preds have also reached out to Mike Ribeiro’s agent about wanting to start contract talks.
Maple Leafs GM stayed back in Nashville on Tuesday after the team left. The Predators are one of the teams that is interested in Cody Franson.
Maple Leafs Mike Santorelli is getting lots of interest, including his former team, the Canucks. The Rangers are also interested. Source saying the Leafs have reached out to Santorelli’s agent about the possibility of a contract extension. If they can’t find common ground, they will move him.
The Kings have contacted Kyle Clifford’s representatives to start preliminary contract extension talks.
