- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers are interested in Leafs pending UFA Mike Santorelli to help solve their third-line/bottom-six issues. The Rangers have about $1.25 million in cap space on hand, about $2 million by the deadline. Santorelli carries a $1.5 million cap hit. The Leafs asking price for Santorelli is yet to be established, but likely to be a high draft pick and/or an NHL ready prospect. The Rangers don’t have a first round pick this year. They have two second round picks, their own and the Lightning’s, along with a third, fourth and six round pick in this year’s draft. Would a second round pick or J.T. Miller work?
- Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk: Canucks GM Jim Benning on Team 1410 radio on the trade deadline and Evander Kane.
TSN 1040: How busy will Mar. 2 be? How busy might the Canucks be on deadline day?
Benning: It’s hard to say. I’ve talked to other general managers and there’s some uncertainty next year with the Canadian dollar and where the salary cap’s going to go to. I think that’s going to have an impact on how many deals are made, but if we can do things to make our team better now and in the future, then we’re going to look at them, and we’ll see where it goes.
TSN 1040: Any Evander Kane? His name’s out there. Would there be an interest in Evander at all if you had the opportunity?
Benning: We can’t really talk about other teams’ players, but we would be interested for sure.
- Andy Strickland: The Blues have the option to put Kevin Shattenkirk on the LTIR if they need to create some more salary cap space to add someone.
- Players the Coyotes should consider trading are: Antoine Vermette, Zbynek Michalek, Keith Yandle and Lauri Korpikoski.
