Scott Gomez Trade to Montreal

Two sources are reporting the trade as: Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt, and Mike Busto (both fringe prospects at best) for F Chris Higgins, D Ryan McDonagh (Montreal’s 1st Round Pick in 2007) and D Pavel Valentenko. Though Higgins star has dimmed (and I’m not a fan), that GM Sather was able to move Gomez for Cap Space and two young defensemen is a revelation. Not to mention, McDonagh now likely becomes NY’s top prospect. It’s a wise move that corrects a rather large mistake Sather made two years ago. I love Gomez as a player, but he is a $3.5mm player with a $7.2mm long term contract. I am starting to believe the Habs fans…that Gainey might not be the right man to rebuild this team.
