Nobody has really stepped up for Connor Hellebuyck yet

TSN: The Winnipeg Jets are going to be patient with Connor Hellebuyck, and not a lot of teams have stepped up as of yesterday, according to Darren Dreger.

The Florida Panthers have the asset (Anton Lundell), but aren’t willing to move him at this point. The Buffalo Sabres have the assets, but they have a lot of other things being discussed.

What do the Winnipeg Jets need to get in return for Connor Hellebuyck if they were to move him?

TSN: Craig Button on with Jay Onrait on what the Winnipeg Jets should be looking to get for Connor Hellebuyck if they decide to trade him.

NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and the Columbus Blue Jackets

Onrait: “Okay, what do you need to get in return from, for Conor Hellebuyck, if you are Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff?

Button: “You need a goaltender ideally. And, but, but, but the goaltender does, you’re not going to get a goaltender of Connor Hellebuyck’s stature.”

Onrait: “No.

Button: “And a second line center.

Onrait: “Fair enough.

Button: “That’s what you need. That to me, it’s as simple as that.

And again, you’re looking at trying to fill in the areas of your team that need to be stronger. So we saw what the Carolina Hurricanes did with goaltending. Again, Connor Hellebuyck’s at an elite level. He’s one of very few. Find a goaltender and get a second-line center.

Greg Wyshynski: “That tracks with what one GM told me: The Jets are listening but Chevy hasn’t circled back to say “here’s what I would need to make this happen” quite yet.”

Mike McIntyre: “#NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff confirms they are listening to trade offers on Connor Hellebuyck. Cites the end-of-year meetings as part of that process. Wouldn’t directly confirm Hellebuyck has asked for a trade and says there is no timeline.”

Mike McIntyre: “#NHLJets Kevin Cheveldayoff on listening to trade offers on Connor Hellebuyck. “Obviously, what I’ve been hearing hasn’t made me act.”

NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs and Sergei Bobrovsky, Canucks and Filip Hronek

The Jets top priority and the No. 8 pick

Murat Ates: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said that their biggest need is a second-line center.

Cheveldayoff said that they’ve had some trade talks involving the No. 8 pick, but he believes they will get an impact player at No. 8.
