The Montreal Canadiens trade Hal Gill to the Nashville Predators

The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenseman Hal Gill and a conditional 2013 5th round pick to the Nashville Predators for a 2012 2nd round pick, Blake Geoffrion and Robert Slaney.

Pierre LeBrun via twitter: If Geoffrion plays 40 games in Montreal next year, Nashville gets a 2013 5th round pick. If he plays less than 40 games, there is not pick.

Geoffrion’s grandfather was Boom-Boom Geoffrion and his great grandfather was Howie Morenz.

David Pagnotta via twitter: Predators GM David Poile “”Gill brings our team a number of elements – size, penalty-killing ability, depth on defense and playoff experience.”

Corey Pronman via twitter: On Blake Geoffrion “a defensively sound hard working player, but may just be a 4th line, fringe 3rd type of player.”

David Pagnotta via twitter: Pagnotta notes you can never have too many good defenseman. Not only did the Predators improve, they kept Gill out of Chicago and Detroit.

Jim Diamond via twitter: Gil is expected to be in Detroit around 5, and be in the lineup for the Predators tonight.
